Ans. In this, as the head of the HR department. I have to give recommendations which will serve the interests of all the stakeholders like company, other employees and family of the diseased employee.
Recommendations
(i) I will ask the company not to give
compensation as the employee was drunk on duty.
Merits This step will set as standard and deterrence that if anything happens to an employee who is drunk then the company is not responsible for the death. This also fulfils the demand of the law which prohibits the compensation for a death when anyone found drunk.
Demerits As it is not proved that death happened because he was drunk or of any other reason, so it will go against justice, as the employee has worked for the company and the company has the responsibility for compensating his family if the death happened in the company premises.

(ii) I will ask the company to compensate the diseased employee's family.
Merits It will respect the work the employee has done for the company, this will help the family members financially as well. This step will increase the respect for the company's management in the eyes of workers.
Demerits This step can send a wrong signal to the other employees, as they will not be deterred from drinking at the time of working.

(iii) Provide job to some family member of the employee and formulating strict guidelines for drunk and injury cases.
Merits
This step may cool off the demand of the family. It will uphold the rule as well and also prevent the company from financial burden.
Demerits
There is also a chance that the family will not accept this demand and no family members will be willing to work in the company.

The third option seemes to be most rational which can satisfy all the stakeholders in one go.
