Is colonial mentality hindering India's success? The past is inextricably linked with our present and feeds into our future. The importance of history cannot be overstated. It creates a framework and construct which translate into our culture and social practice. The British colonized India and established a semi-hegemonic, semi-authorization, semi-democratic type of rule. They did not rely solely on force to rule India. Doctrines such as ‘white man’s burden’ civilizing mission, benevolent despotism where used to legitimize their rule.
