  • Indian Diaspora is known for its contribution to the society and economy wherever it resides. In all major regions like North America, Europe, West Asia South-East Asia etc. The people of Indian origin are participating actively in the growth of the culture and economy of that region.
  • In context to the region of South-East Asia, the importance of Indian diaspora can be summed up with the naming of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam as Indo-China. Indians have enriched the culture of their countries since the ancient times as many Hindu rulers like Cholas and many Buddhist monks have spread these religions in these countries. The ancient temples of Cambodia, Indonesia etc are still known for their excellence. Due to this contact, the maximum population in these countries belong to Buddhist religion.
  • Along with this in the contemporary time, the people of Indian origin are using their soft power diplomacy to strengthen their position in these countries. Bollywood and tollywood movies are quite famous in these countries. Indian guru like Baba Ramdev, Sri Ravishankar, and Ayurveda, have been popularised by these Indian diaspora in this part of the world. Indian languages have also been recognised in these countries.
  • In the field of economics also Indian diaspora is participating in the growth story of these countries. Many Indian companies have their base in countries like Singapore and Thailand. They provide jobs to the people of these countries. Many Indians are also working their in the service sectors mainly in the IT companies and paying taxes as well increasing the demand in these countries.
  • Indians are also employed in the tea-plantation at a very large scale in these countries.
  • So, in overall, it can be said that Indians have contributed a lot in the growth story of the South-East Asian countries.
