Importance of the new objectives that got added to the vision of Indian Independence

Highlight the importance of the new objectives that got added to the vision of Indian Independence since the twenties of the last century.
New objectives that got added were,
  • Poorna Swaraj (complete independence )
  • Welfaristic  anti-poverty  orientation
  • Socialistic Vision.
Indian nationalists were no longer desirous of dominion status and adopted complete independence of India from British as the goal of Indian freedom struggle. An aspiring and politically awakened youth segment was disillusioned by the methods and goals of Indian National Congress. They were driven by revolutionary zeal and sought more direct action against British rule.  The October Revolution of 1917 in Russia had a global impact. Socialistic ideas as well as the possibility of overthrow of British by revolution ignited the hearts and minds of millions of Indians.
The narrative of the freedom struggle got expanded and included the freedom from poverty, inequality, ignorance and disease.  The Hindustan Socialistic Republican Army (HSRA) declared its goal as socialism. The Congress Socialist party also came up within Indian National Congress. Nehru declared that he neither believed in rule of Kings or princes as well as the modern Kings that industries produced.
These struggles and aspirations ultimately this led to Indian independence from British colonial rule.
These objectives were also instrumental in the making of post-independence INDIA. These visions and aspirations are best reflected in the Indian constitution. Thus there new goals propelled India to adopt a mixed economy with ‘state commanding the heights of the economy’ and the ruling Congress party declaring its goal as the establishment of ‘socialistic pattern of society’
