Evaluate the attitude of different political parties towards Quit India Movement.
The Quit India Movement of 9th August, 1942 had a mixed response from the Indian political parties. The Colonial government imprisoned the main Congress leadership including Gandhi who led the movement. This led to the movement becoming a spontaneous struggle with leaders from local regions rising up to the occasion.
However, the other polictical parties did not support the movement and had a mixed response.

- The Muslim league kept itself aloof from the movement, and continued to work on its devisive agenda. But no communal riots were reported. The league tried to weaken the movement.
- The Hindu Mahasabha condemned the movement.
- The Indian princes and the landlords were supporting the war effort and did not sympathise with the movement.
- There were Congress leaders, like Raj Gopalchari, who did not participate in the movement and supported the war efforts.
- Communist party of India vehemently opposed the movement as they believed that the movement will hamper war in which Russia was also fighting along side British against Germany.The Hindu Mahasabha accused communist party of pursuing an anti-national agenda.
