The significance of Patharughat in the Indian Freedom Struggle.
Patharughat, a village in Darrang district in Assam, is known for 140 unarmed peasants who fell to the bullets of JR Berington, officiating commandant of the military police, while protesting exorbitant taxes imposed on them on 28th January, 1894.
Patharughat is also known as the Assam's Jallianwala Bagh. Since 2000, the Indian army has been playing homage to the martyrs on 29th January every year and has also set up martyrs' column (Shahid Stambha).

The Bagurumba dance is a spring time dance of the Bodos of Assam.
The dance is usually performed during Bwishagu festival of the Bodos in the Bishuba Sankranti.
The Bagurumba dance is also called 'butterfly dance' because this attractive folk dance of the Bodo tribe of Assam, resembles the movement of birds and butterflies.
The dance is mainly performed in the areas of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Darran and Sonitpur districts.
