Directive Principles of State Policy

Consider the following statements:
With reference to the Constitution of India, the Directive Principles of State Policy constitute limitations upon
  1. legislative function.
  2. executive function.
Which of the above statements is/are correct?
(a) 1 only
(b) 2 only
(c) Both 1 and 2
(d) Neither 1 nor 2

Solution: D
The fundamental rights constitute limitations upon state action.  Any  legislative or executive action that infringes on the fundamental rights can be declared as null and void by the courts.
Directive Principles of State Policy are non justiciable in nature. They are enabling features of the constitution and not restrictive on executive and legislative action.  Any individual cannot approach the court of law for their implementation of Directive Principles nor that any action of the government is violative of the Directive Principles of State Policy.
